DESCRIPTION:All the charm of an Old Fashioned Christmas will be on display during the annual Christmas Kickoff in downtown Dayton\, Nov. 29 and 30. Main Street comes alive with an abundance of festivities reminiscent of a traditional small town Christmas. The merriment begins at 9 a.m. on Friday as the shops open with holiday specials and a myriad of events commence that prove Dayton is truly "The Town That Still Believes." The two days are packed with events for the family. An Ugly Christmas Sweater 5K Dash starts out the day with registration at 10 a.m. at Dayton's Historic Courthouse and the race at 11 a.m.The mule drawn hayrides depart from the Historic Train Depot from noon to 3:30 each day. The Depot will feature local foods\, handcrafted gifts and Christmas ornaments. Stop by the Boldman House to hear live music and pick up some free Boldman family recipes or a nose flute. The Wenaha Gallery will be holding a Christmas Kickoff Art Show and serving Christmas artisan treats from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday. On Saturday\, the gallery celebrates their 26th anniversary with cake served all day. Children can enjoy a free matinee of Snowmen at 3 p.m. Friday at the Liberty Theater. And performances of Mary Poppins will be put on at 3 and 7 p.m. Saturday at the Liberty. Not to be missed is the Live Nativity Scene. Kids can make Christmas gifts for FREE at the Make & Take Crafts\, taking place both days in the Delany Room at the library. New this year is the Christmas Tree Festival at 250 E. Main Street\, featuring more than 20 decorated trees. Several trees will be raffled with all funds donated to The Giving Tree. Kids can find Santa and Mrs. Claus here too. Boys and girls can sit with Santa\, give him their wish and get their picture taken with ole Saint Nick. He'll be receiving visitors Friday from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Main Street comes aglow on Friday night during the Lighted Parade. The parade begins at 6 p.m.\, and is promptly followed by the Fireworks Show.
