DESCRIPTION:Tour the B Reactor at the Hanford unit of the Manhattan Project National Historical Park. The B Reactor was the world's first full-scale plutonium production reactor and is a National Historic Landmark. It was created as part of the top-secret Manhattan Project during World War II. The reactor produced the plutonium used in the Trinity Test\, the world's first nuclear detonation\, in July 1945\, and the atomic bomb dropped on Nagasaki\, Japan in August 1945 that contributed to the Japanese surrender and end of World War II. You will receive a docent-led tour and learn about the people\, events\, science\, and engineering involved in the project. The tour runs four hours in length.
