DESCRIPTION:It's time again for weekend Living History at the museum! On Sunday\, April 7 the life of Washington the life of florist\, park-builder and poet Charles W. Phillips will be presented at Fort Walla Walla Museum\, 755 Myra Road. The presentation begins at 2 p.m. in the museum's Pioneer Village. Charles W. Phillips came to Walla Walla in 1861\, along with his siblings and parents\, at age six. He will be talking about his involvement with the conception of two major Walla Walla parks. His interest in flora and landscaping was instilled in him by his mother\, whose roses and beautiful yard were commented on in the August 31\, 1866 Walla Walla Statesman. The City and Dreamland Parks (now Pioneer and Jefferson Parks\, respectively) are still an integral part of the tapestry of this area. Phillips will be bringing some original documents for visitors to examine\, including a book of his published poems\, "The Vale of Walla Walla." He will read two or three of these poems and explain their meanings during the performance. Charles Phillips is portrayed by his grandson and Walla Walla native\, Dick Phillips.
