SUMMARY:Sustainable Vineyards
DESCRIPTION:Vinea Vineyards is a network of winegrowers united by environmentally friendly and socially responsible growing practices. This tour will highlight four vineyards in the Walla Walla Valley appellation.\n\nAt each stop we will be joined by Vinea Vineyards members who will describe the growing techniques\, grape varietals grown\, and the terroir effect of wine made from the fruit on each of their vineyards. We'll learn of Vinea's dedication to sustainability and its project to develop a certification program tailored specifically to the Walla Walla Valley.\n\n \n\nWe'll begin at the Walla Walla Community College Enology & Viticulture Center\, with a focus on Mill Creek vineyards that are grown in deep loess soils with annual precipitation that minimizes the need for irrigation. We will also hear about the College's Viticulture Program.\n\nNext\, we'll head to Pepper Bridge Winery and Amavi Cellars\, where we will learn about the mix of soil types in this Stateline area\, and how the acreage supports both vineyards and orchards.\n\nThird\, we'll visit Milton-Freewater to learn how a new appellation is established and why it is called "The Rocks."\n\nOur tour will end the day at the gazebo in the Sevein vineyard complex with a view from the southern edge of the Walla Walla Valley. Here we'll toast the Valley with some terrific wines.\n\nWe will meet at the Walla Walla Community College main parking lot by the flagpole. Bus transportation will be provided.\n\nThis event is made possible by the generous support of Inland Family Dentistry.
