SUMMARY:The Outsiders\, presented by DeSales Catholic School
DESCRIPTION:Teen rivalry in a small\, southern town comes to life in DeSales Catholic High School's upcoming production of S. E. Hinton's classic The Outsiders. Set in rural Oklahoma in 1965\, this dramatic interpretation by Christopher Sergel is seen through the eyes of young Ponyboy\, a Greaser on the wrong side of life. The drama centers on the ongoing conflict between the underprivileged Greasers and the rich kid Socs in rural Oklahoma. When a territorial battle goes horribly awry\, Ponyboy and his friends have to grow up very quickly with nothing going for them but their hope and their friends. Over 35 DeSales students are involved with the production that will be performed at the Walla Walla Community College China Pavilion. "DeSales students that attending Assumption Catholic Middle School read The Outsiders in eighth grade as part of the curriculum so many of them were very aware of the story and characters of this classic novel" says Eric Rohde\, Theatre Arts teacher at DeSales. "The students have dived deep into the timeless characters of this play and are ready to showcase their amazing talents and efforts to the community. The story is a classic tale that is still relevant to today's events and social status." Performances are December 9 and 10 at 7:30 PM\, and December 10 and 11 at 2pm. Tickets are available through the DeSales office\, or at the door 1 hour before performances. Tickets are $10 general admission\, and $7 staff/students.
