In this workshop, Jean Ann Mitchell will share her watercolor talents to teach painting of native plant botanicals. Jean Ann’s work is very recognizable in gift shops and galleries: detailed line drawings with beautiful colors artistically overlaid.
Jean Ann says that marrying a forester surrounded her with people focused on nature, many with a particular attraction to native wildflowers.
She honed her scientific observation skills through botany classes and by participating in a pioneering native plant restoration program on the Walla Walla Ranger District. The art-rich environment of the Walla Walla Valley has been a wonderful fit for a person of her talents.
Jean Ann will impart an understanding of native wildflowers and endemics in this class, and spark an appreciation of species characteristics. Students will begin with a line-drawing interpretation of a wildflower, and then experiment with color.
This event will be an intimate and exciting opportunity for artists of all levels to improve their botanical artistic skills.
