Spend an evening with Mike Denny exploring Jasper Mountain, located in the northwestern corner of the Blue Mountain ecoregion. We’ll take a casual 2.5-mile hike through forests along a north facing slope and stroll across open faces with an overlook of the Rainwater Preserve owned and managed by the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation. On this hike you will learn how to pay close attention to the surrounding landscape. We’ll take our time examining the many plants, insects, and birds we may see. There will likely be signs of deer, moose, black bear, or elk along the trail. As dusk falls, we’ll observe the moths and other insects using a black light. This is a moderate walk with some gradual hills on an even surface. Transportation provided for participants.
