There is an old saying: "You can't really understand another person's experience until you've walked a mile in their shoes." On Oct. 16, the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes march returns to ask men to literally walk one mile in women's shoes. It's not easy walking in these shoes, but it's fun and it gets the community to talk about something that's really difficult to talk about: gender relations and sexual violence.
The Walk a Mile in Her Shoes march will take place at noon, starting at Heritage Square. Participants will meet at 11 a.m. to sign up and put on their shoes.
For the past three years, men in Walla Walla have come together with the YWCA of Walla Walla for this very important cause. YWCA staff, board members, and volunteers encourage the community to join them.
This year, to highlight the fact that men must be a part of the solution to ending sexualized violence, the YWCA produced a video about the issue, starring many men in the Walla Walla community. Watch the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHTFe0YRE0o
