From Connections to Careers: Building Opportunity One Conversation at a Time
2026 has not eased in quietly for most of us. It arrived with a jolt—bringing both familiar challenges and a new urgency around workforce, entrepreneurship, and the future of doing business in the Walla Walla Valley.
At the Chamber, we’ve heard the same question from business owners, educators, and emerging professionals alike: How do we stay connected—and how do we help the next generation move forward with confidence? Our work this year is focused on answering that question in tangible ways that help individuals, businesses, and our broader community not only adapt, but thrive.
One of the most immediate opportunities to plug in comes on February 26th, when our Walla Walla Valley Young Professionals and Women in Business groups host a Speed Networking event at the WWCC Enology Center. Open to all businesses, this fast-paced and highly engaging program will be kicked off by WWCC President Chad Hickox, with students from the Enology and Culinary departments providing food and beverages—including zero-proof options for participants.
If you haven’t yet experienced the Enology Center, you may be surprised by both the facility itself and the depth of opportunity it represents for our students and our regional workforce pipeline.
This event will also serve as the launch point for a new community initiative developed by our Women in Business Mastermind group: a light-touch mentorship program designed to connect young professionals with experienced business and community leaders for informal guidance over coffee or lunch. Whether you’re navigating your first job, considering a career transition, or looking to grow into leadership—or you’re someone willing to share lived experience with the next generation—this program is designed to support those connections that can quietly, but meaningfully, change the trajectory of someone’s career.
We often talk about workforce development in terms of policy or programs. Sometimes, it starts with a conversation.
For those exploring a business idea of their own—whether as a side venture or with the goal of scaling into something more—this is also a great time to learn more about the Chamber’s Solopreneur membership. Participants gain access not only to the benefits of Chamber engagement, but also to coaching and no-cost business advising through SCORE and the SBDC, providing structured support from start-up through succession planning.
Connection continues through our monthly Community Open Café, held on the last Wednesday of each month from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. These free sessions are open to businesses in any sector and feature participant-driven discussion—resulting in conversations that often spark new partnerships, collaborations, and clients. Space is limited, so advance registration is encouraged at wwvchamber.com/events. For additional information about these or other programs, please contact Chamber staff at staff@wwvchamber.com.
We are also currently seeking a few additional participants for two short-term task forces: Walla Walla Valley Young Professionals and Film WWV. Both groups offer the opportunity to influence programming and initiatives in 2026 and beyond—from supporting early-career professionals to helping build out an emerging creative industry that contributes to the diversification of our local economy.
And yes—if you’re looking for a professional office space that keeps you close to downtown without a Main Street address; the Chamber currently has a flexible office available for lease. With parking, conference room access, secure entry, and even a friendly four-legged greeter in residence, it may be the perfect next step for a growing business.
As always, there is more on the horizon—from Community Concierge volunteer opportunities to upcoming marketing workshops and Chamber After Hours events. Each is designed with a single goal in mind: helping businesses connect with the people, tools, and insight they need to move forward.
The Chamber’s mission is simple yet powerful: connect people, ideas, and opportunity. In times of uncertainty, it is through these connections that businesses grow stronger, careers take shape, and communities thrive. We invite you to join us—not only in building your own future, but in enriching the economic vitality and quality of life for the entire Walla Walla Valley
