Auditions: Jack and the Beanstalk (Missoula Children's Theatre)
The Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) will hold auditions on Monday, June 24 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. for "Jack and the Beanstalk" at The Little Theatre of Walla Walla.
What happens when a young boy plants Wonder Beans in his own backyard? For Jack, it is the beginning of a great adventure. With a little help from P.T. Wonder and a Giant, Jack learns a valuable lesson about true happiness. This musical production also features a host of other characters, including the Elegant Harp, Jill, Mother, Milky White, the Farmers, the Merchants, the Circus Performers, and the Wonder Beans.
All students entering 1st grade through 12th grade are encouraged to audition. Up to 60 students may participate. No advance preparation is necessary. Assistant Directors will also be cast to aid in rehearsals throughout the week, and to take on essential backstage responsibilities. Those auditioning should arrive at The Little Theatre of Walla Walla by 9:45 a.m. on June 24 and plan to stay for the full two hours.
Rehearsals are Monday through Thursday, June 25-28, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (additional Friday and Saturday rehearsal times to be announced). Most students rehearse approximately 4 hours per day. Some of the cast members will be asked to stay for a rehearsal immediately following the audition. There is a $75 tuition fee per student, if cast.
The Missoula Children's Theatre touring productions are complete with costumes, scenery, props and makeup. MCT Tour Actor/Directors will conduct rehearsals throughout the week each day. There will be three performances on Saturday, June 29. Tickets for the performance will be $5 for all ages (babies held in arms are free).
This production of "Jack and the Beanstalk" is made possible through collaboration between The Little Theatre of Walla Walla and Missoula Children's Theatre.
Missoula Children's Theatre is the nation’s largest touring children’s theatre, and has been touring extensively for more than 30 years now from Montana to Japan, and will visit more than 1000 communities this year with 35 teams of Tour Actor/Directors. A tour team arrives in a given town with a set, lights, costumes, props and make-up, everything it takes to put on a play - except the cast. The team holds an open audition and casts 50-60 local students to perform in the production. The show is rehearsed throughout the week and public performances are presented at the end of the week.
All MCT shows are original adaptations of classic children’s stories and fairy tales - a twist on the classic stories that you know and love. Also included in the residency are three enrichment workshops presented by the Tour Actor/Directors. Creativity, social skills, goal achievement, communication skills and self-esteem are all characteristics that are attained through the participation in this unique, educational project. MCT's mission is the development of life skills in children through participation in the performing arts. For more information about this production, call the MCT main office at 509.876.2316.
