Farm Day at McKinney Farms
One of Walla Walla’s best kept secrets is the 1919 Tractor Show, which was held on Russell Creek Road in April of 1919. The era represented a time of great technological innovation and transition in the agriculture industry as horse-drawn equipment transitioned toward combustion-engine farm machinery. Nearly 50,000 spectators participated during the 3-day show expo. Farmers and their families arrived from all over the Northwest, eager to view the latest innovations in modern farming and household appliances. BMLT is commemorating the centennial anniversary of this remarkable event with a Farm Day held at McKinney Farms. Antique autos and vintage farm machinery will be on exhibit, in addition to live demonstrations of traditional mule-plowing techniques and binder & thrashing machinery techniques used for wheat harvesting. The event will showcase a documentary about the 1919 Tractor Show (a BMLT production) and premier the release of “The 1919 Tractor Show,” a commemorative book of the historic event. Touchet Valley Music Project will provide bluegrass tunes while you enjoy a picnic lunch in the shade. Cold drinks and ice cream will be served.
