Living History: The orchardist who lit up Walla Walla with fruit trees: Phillip Ritz
Phillip Ritz arrived in Walla Walla in 1861 with saplings he was sure could make a good go of it in the region. He became so successful, the town of Ritzville was named for him, and a mansion of his remains in the middle of Walla Walla Country Club's golf course. He is regarded as the premier pioneer setting this region on its path to national fame as a fruit bowl. Ron Klicker will play the gentleman.
